C.I.A. Officer’s Arrest Raises Questions Over $40 Million in Gold Bars

3 weeks ago 0

David Rush, a 49-year-old C.I.A. officer, was recently arrested after authorities discovered over $40 million in gold bars at his residence. Rush had served in the agency’s Directorate of Science and Technology for 17 years before his arrest on May 18.

Reports indicate that Rush had previously interacted with Stephen A. Feinberg during President Trump’s first term. Feinberg, the founder of Cerberus Capital Management, is now the deputy secretary of defense and served as chair of the President’s Intelligence Advisory Board during the Trump administration. Although Rush and Feinberg were not closely connected, Feinberg had a longstanding interest in C.I.A. technology, particularly from the Directorate of Science and Technology.

Officials remain puzzled over the origin and purpose of the gold bars found in Rush’s possession. Some speculate that Rush may have been involved in a covert program, which might explain his access to such vast wealth. However, those briefed on the investigation assert Feinberg and the Pentagon are not linked to the gold bars.

Rush is currently incarcerated, facing charges of embezzling public funds by submitting fraudulent time sheets. Legal documents reveal that he exaggerated his educational background and misrepresented his work history.

The case surrounding Rush leaves many unanswered questions. From last November to March, he reportedly requested and acquired millions in gold bars and foreign currencies for claimed work-related expenses. However, a C.I.A. review failed to trace these assets. Eventually, the F.B.I., informed by the C.I.A., searched Rush’s home and uncovered 303 gold bars, each weighing 2.2 pounds.

The details of the case continue to unfold as authorities delve into Rush’s activities and associations.
