Ana Maria Markovic: A Journey of Resilience in Soccer

1 hour ago 0

Ana Maria Markovic has left the American soccer scene, but she’s not stepping away from enjoying her summer. Recently, she expressed gratitude towards Brooklyn FC after spending a single season in New York. The Croatian player, who has frequently drawn attention, has now returned to her home country to join Hajduk Split. Since 2024, this marks the fifth team she has played for.

Markovic spoke to the audience during the Web Summit 2023 held in Lisbon, Portugal on November 14. Her career path has seen challenges, particularly after enduring a significant knee injury in March 2023 while with Switzerland’s Grasshopper Club. This injury has made a comeback difficult, and reports indicate she hasn’t scored since.

Despite these hurdles, Markovic has secured a spot with a reputable team. Hajduk Split recently won their first Croatian Women’s First Football League title in May. Markovic, who once held the title of the “World’s Most Beautiful Soccer Player,” is not letting setbacks overshadow her successes.

Her resilient spirit is evident. Even without new trophy wins yet, she continues to show her strength and commitment on and off the field. She recently contributed as team manager of Las Ligas Ladies, celebrating their triumph over Gönrgy Allstars during the Baller League Final Four in Duesseldorf on October 7, 2024.

Markovic is now focusing on assisting Hajduk Split, who just concluded the preliminary stages of the UEFA Women’s Champions League. Although they didn’t secure a qualifying spot, the team eagerly anticipates their upcoming matches in the Croatian Women’s League.

Supporters are hopeful that Markovic will soon find opportunities to score and spend some successful days relaxing on the beach as the summer progresses.
