Ariana Grande Takes a Break from Public Life

Ariana Grande will not participate in an upcoming stage musical in London, as producers confirmed. She intends to take a break from the public spotlight due to intense scrutiny she has faced recently.

Grande was set to star alongside her ‘Wicked’ colleague Jonathan Bailey in a production of Stephen Sondheim’s ‘Sunday in the Park with George’ at the Barbican Centre in 2027. However, Empire Street Productions announced on Sunday that Grande will not be part of the cast. ‘We know this cannot have been an easy decision, and she makes it with our complete understanding and support,’ stated the company. The production will proceed as planned next summer, with new casting details to be shared later.

Grande’s Representative’s Statement

A spokesperson for Grande revealed to People magazine that the 33-year-old singer plans to withdraw from visible public engagements following the completion of her Eternal Sunshine Tour. ‘She looks forward to finishing the tour and ending it on a high note, both healthily and happily, and then taking a much-deserved break from public-facing work and appearances, which has led to endless, ongoing public scrutiny,’ said the representative.

Details about the scrutiny on her physical appearance and health have been prevalent in recent years. This scrutiny increased after she released her ‘Petal’ music video, featuring her as an aspiring performer facing repeated rejections by male judges.

Ariana Grande’s Response to Public Scrutiny

Grande has addressed this scrutiny in the past. In her 2024 song, ‘Yes, And?,’ she sang about self-acceptance with lyrics such as, ‘My face is sitting, I don’t need no disguise / Don’t comment on my body, do not reply / Your business is yours, and mine is mine.’

Moreover, in 2023, amid rising comments on her appearance, Grande shared a TikTok video stressing, ‘you never know what someone is going through.’ The video resonated widely, garnering millions of views and likes. She advised, ‘Even if you are coming from a loving place and a caring place, that person probably is working on it or has a support system that they are working on it with. So, be gentle with each other and with yourselves.’

Grande’s current tour is scheduled to conclude in London on September 1. She rose to fame as a child performer on Nickelodeon before launching her debut album, ‘Yours Truly,’ in 2013.
