Paris Jackson has accused John Branca, who manages the estate of her father Michael Jackson, of financial retaliation against her and her siblings. She claims Branca reduced their financial distributions after she questioned his management of the estate.
According to court documents, Paris asked a Los Angeles court to move $600 million from the estate into the family trust. She accused Branca of maintaining tight control over the inheritance and submitted evidence of reduced payments to the children.
John Branca has overseen the estate since Michael Jackson’s death in 2009. The music icon died from acute propofol intoxication. Paris alleged that Branca mismanaged funds by giving non-contractual gifts, engaging in litigation, and cutting financial distributions to Jackson’s children.
Her legal team stated, “When Paris began challenging Executor Branca’s actions, she faced litigation and public attacks, and her payments were reduced.” Paris further accused Branca of using estate resources for personal needs like travel and expenses unrelated to estate matters.
“Where travel is personal, it is outright theft,” the legal filing claims.
Paris Jackson also questioned massive credit card charges and other expenses totaling over $440 million. She challenged Branca’s investment in projects like a biopic about Michael Jackson, which required millions in additional costs.
Branca’s financial accounting has been contested by Paris’s team. They requested that the court demand a detailed account of estate spending.
A representative for the estate stated, “The Executors have turned a $500 million debt into $3 billion in revenue despite claims to the contrary.” The executor argues that obstacles, such as ongoing IRS litigation seeking $700 million from the estate, prevent full funding of individual trusts.
Paris pointed out that their father’s estate plan called for trust income for his children starting at age 21 and portions of the inheritance at age 30. Paris claimed that the executor has not followed this plan.
The estate has reportedly distributed over $200 million to the beneficiaries, with no complete distributions until the children are in their 30s.
A court hearing about Paris’s request for the $600 million distribution is planned for December 4.
Paris Jackson has shared insights about growing up as Michael Jackson’s child. Despite the fame, their father insisted on a strict routine to maintain their normalcy, including completions of chores and homework before leisure activities.
