Army Secretary Dan Driscoll Resigns Amid Pentagon Tensions

Army Secretary Dan Driscoll has submitted his resignation to President Donald Trump following reported clashes with War Secretary Pete Hegseth. These tensions within Pentagon leadership have raised questions about the impact on the U.S. military strategy and national security, especially amid the ongoing U.S.-Iran conflict.

Senator Thom Tillis, Republican from North Carolina, urged President Trump to replace Hegseth. He criticized the War Secretary, expressing concern over the leadership void created in the military ranks. Tillis praised Driscoll’s efforts to innovate the Army’s approach to manning and procurement, emphasizing Driscoll’s deep care for the men and women in the military.

If we had a Secretary of War who maintained forward-thinking priorities, he would retain talented leaders like Driscoll. Instead, he’s creating a leadership void at the top of our military ranks, Tillis stated.

Tillis, who has served eight years on the Senate Armed Services, described Hegseth as intimidated by competence, accusing him of prioritizing culture wars over national defense.

The War Department declined to comment. However, the White House expressed strong support for Hegseth. Anna Kelly, a White House spokeswoman, affirmed Trump’s trust in Hegseth, noting successful military operations under his leadership.

In a statement, Driscoll reflected on his tenure, calling it an honor to serve. He credited his achievements in modernizing the Army to the support from Hegseth and expressed gratitude to President Trump for the opportunity.

A source indicated Driscoll had concerns over Army transformation efforts and readiness being blocked by Hegseth, who reportedly fired generals responsible for this transformation.
