Jeanine John Taele was arrested on Sunday at the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, days before President Donald Trump was due to attend a Republican National Committee fundraising event. FBI agents observed Taele, a 38-year-old resident of Downey, California, allegedly engaging in suspicious activities, such as photographing and recording security planning around the premises.
Taele faces weapons-related charges after the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department discovered illegal firearms and ammunition in his vehicle. According to Captain Calvin Mah, leader of the LASD Major Crimes Bureau, authorities are conducting thorough background checks to determine if additional weapons are involved. Investigators are also analyzing a notebook believed to belong to Taele and examining his social media profiles.
The suspect’s first name, Jeanine, led to online speculation about his gender identity. However, Mah clarified that Taele is a biological male. Taele was also wanted in connection with a robbery investigation by the El Segundo, California, police department. The Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department notified El Segundo upon Taele’s booking, alerting them to his custody status. Mah believes the robbery incident dates back a few months and noted that he has yet to access Taele’s full criminal record.

Following a search warrant executed at Taele’s residence, authorities reported finding multiple firearms, ammunition, body armor, and notebooks with concerning statements, as noted by CNN. First Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Bill Essayli, confirmed on social media that the investigation is active, stating that his office, the FBI, and ATF are reviewing evidence.
The incident occurs amid increased security measures surrounding Trump due to past threats and attempts against him. Despite the evidence found, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that there is currently no credible threat to the community.
