During the Cincinnati Bengals’ recent defeat against the Jacksonville Jaguars, the team experienced further setbacks as key offensive players Ja’Marr Chase and Tee Higgins suffered injuries. Chase was diagnosed with a concussion and Higgins suffered an adductor injury.
Heading into their Week 5 matchup against the Miami Dolphins on October 11, there was uncertainty regarding the participation of both players. However, positive developments emerged for Chase. According to ESPN’s Ben Baby, Chase returned to practice on Thursday, indicating progress in his recovery protocol. Although not yet cleared, this development marks a hopeful sign for Chase’s potential participation in Sunday’s game.
The incident involving Chase occurred in the second quarter of Sunday’s loss when Jacksonville Jaguars cornerback Jarrian Jones tackled him, pulling his face mask. Chase was then tackled again while already down. The face mask penalty against Jones afforded the Bengals a 15-yard advancement, but Chase left the field under his own power and did not return.
In the current season, spanning four games, Chase has achieved 212 yards and three touchdowns from 21 receptions. While he is trailing behind Higgins, who leads with 401 yards, both players are crucial to the team’s success.
On the other hand, Higgins remains unlikely to participate in the upcoming game. His absence was noted as he skipped practice for the second consecutive day. According to Fox19’s Jeremy Rauch, Higgins was relegated to the rehab field where he engaged in light jogging.
For the Bengals, missing both Chase and Higgins, even for just one game, could be significant. This could impact their standing, especially having a current record of 2-2. Facing an 0-4 Miami team might offer some relief, but each NFL game carries weight in the season’s outcome.
