Black Tiger holds a significant legacy in the world of professional wrestling. The character debuted in New Japan Pro-Wrestling as a rival for the iconic Tiger Mask and has been a fixture in the promotion since the 1980s. Although it is uncommon to see Black Tiger outside New Japan, today’s wrestling scene allows characters to appear globally.
The current version of Black Tiger, previously known as Magnus, now performs in Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL) and has been seen in Major League Wrestling (MLW). This wrestler is the ninth iteration of Black Tiger.
In a recent interview with OutKick Dropkick, Black Tiger expressed the importance of representing such an iconic Lucha Libre figure. He stated, “It’s very important because it’s not just about me. It’s my company, CMLL, but I also have the opportunity to be Black Tiger.” He emphasized the need to represent his culture in both CMLL and New Japan Pro-Wrestling. With MLW’s different viewing platforms, he strives to showcase his skills globally.
Black Tiger is part of the tag team Los Depredadores with Rugido, and they currently hold the Mexican National Tag Team Championship in CMLL. Although having the title boosts his recognition, he admits there is more work to make Black Tiger a recognized name in wrestling.
He plans to expand the Black Tiger name worldwide, mentioning aspirations to perform in countries like Canada and Australia. He said, “I want to make the name bigger. The last Black Tigers were good wrestlers, like Rocky Romero and Eddie Guerrero, but I aim to promote the Black Tiger persona globally.”
Black Tiger also wishes to connect with casual wrestling fans and increase awareness of Japanese pro wrestling and Lucha Libre history. He blends various styles from previous Black Tigers and aims to introduce his unique style to the audience.
Having previously appeared in MLW shows as Magnus and winning the MLW Tag Team Championship for a brief period, Black Tiger is ready to make a lasting impact in MLW. His journey continues with a tag team match alongside Ultimo Guerrero at MLW’s Saturday Night SuperFight, viewable on Veeps. This event marks another step in his international wrestling journey.
