Blakeman Criticizes Hochul’s Alliance with NYC Mayor Mamdani

Republican New York gubernatorial candidate Bruce Blakeman criticized Democratic Governor Kathy Hochul at a campaign rally on Sunday. He described her as a ‘puppet’ of New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, a democratic socialist. The event took place in Yorktown Heights, New York.

Blakeman, who currently serves as the Nassau County executive, accused Hochul of adopting Mayor Mamdani’s agenda. He argued she has not addressed issues like illegal immigration and crime effectively. During the rally, Blakeman stated, ‘Kathy Hochul was campaigning with Mamdani this week. I say that’s great. Please take him everywhere you go, Kathy, because I want to remind people that this un-American, antisemite, anti-Christian mayor is running the Democratic Party and Kathy Hochul is nothing more than his puppet.’

In a recent debate, Hochul and Blakeman clashed over her relationship with Mamdani. This political partnership has developed as democratic socialists gain more influence in New York’s politics. Notably, candidates aligned with Mamdani have achieved significant victories in congressional primaries, defeating two Democratic incumbents.

Blakeman has consistently criticized Hochul and Mamdani regarding public safety. He accuses them of not adequately addressing crime in New York City. Earlier in the month, during an appearance on the city’s subway system, Blakeman called Hochul the ‘most pro-criminal governor’ and accused both leaders of failing to ensure commuter safety.

Mamdani responded to Blakeman’s criticisms by accusing him of involving ‘bigotry and racism’ in their recent debate. Mamdani has defended Hochul, stating that it is challenging to address every point made by Blakeman.

While campaigning together, Hochul and Mamdani have highlighted their focus on affordability and child care. They argue that their policies are intended to lower costs for working families.
