ByteDance and MPA Strengthen AI Copyright Protections

48 minutes ago 0

In February, Disney and other film studios raised concerns about Seedance’s AI tools creating content with copyrighted characters and celebrity likenesses without proper authorization. Seedance2.0, developed by ByteDance, became a focal point after the company introduced significant updates to its AI tools.

On Monday, ByteDance and the Motion Picture Association (MPA) agreed to enhance copyright protections for the Chinese company’s AI video and image-generation systems. This agreement arrives months after the MPA challenged ByteDance’s approach to intellectual property management.

The deal includes ByteDance’s Seedance video and Seedream image-generation models, following a cease-and-desist letter from the MPA in February. The association’s concerns centered around unauthorized content generation by these AI tools. In response, ByteDance announced that newer model versions now have improved intellectual property safeguards.

The updated models are part of services like TikTok, CapCut, and Dreamina. The MPA’s initial challenge highlighted fears that Seedance could create unauthorized copyrighted film and television content.

Both parties have expressed their commitment to continuously develop protections for copyrighted material as AI technology progresses.
