New York authorities have concluded a search for Thomas David Ryan, a fugitive involved in the killing of his father, Robert Ryan, and an arson incident at the family home. Ryan, 32, was apprehended in the Gilboa area of Schoharie County, as announced by New York State Police. This ended a manhunt that enlisted the assistance of the FBI and various police agencies across the state.
Details of the Incident
The manhunt started when state troopers responded to a house fire on Thursday evening, around 7:30 p.m., at Greenville Turnpike in Orange County. After firefighters extinguished the blaze, they discovered Robert Ryan, aged 70, deceased within the residence. Investigators concluded the fire was deliberately set, leading them to treat the death as a homicide.
Although Thomas Ryan had no known connections to the Greenville area since he did not live with his father, police quickly focused on him as a suspect. Authorities sought public assistance to track down Ryan, who was believed to have fled in his father’s gray 2016 Toyota Prius.
Manhunt and Capture
Thomas Ryan was labeled as “armed and dangerous”, prompting law enforcement to urge the public to report sightings without confronting him. The investigation scrupulously examined surveillance footage from numerous locations, tracing Ryan’s movements following the homicide.
Residents were encouraged to scrutinize recorded footage from approximately 6 p.m. on Thursday through the nighttime hours to aid in tracking Ryan’s whereabouts.
