Instagram user lucky_charmedcourt posted a series of six videos showing a woman, reportedly with a skin condition, using a fork in this unconventional manner. The videos also captured the Instagram user’s attempts to alert guest services and the ship’s captain about the incident. The second video, captioned “foot fungus lady uses fork on cruise,” shows the woman scratching her foot more aggressively with the fork tines. Another video highlights the woman picking at what appears to be dry skin on her foot while on one of the ship’s decks.

The cruise blog “CruiseHive” identified the vessel as Carnival Sunrise, formerly known as Carnival Triumph. Fox News Digital reached out to the Carnival Cruise Line and the Instagram user for their comments on the situation.

On July 22, Carnival Cruise Line issued a public statement regarding the incident. The statement clarified, “We can confirm that forks are intended for food, not foot care.” It continued, “Once we became aware of the situation, our team quickly addressed it with the guest and removed the utensil from service.”

The incident has spurred discussions on social media about cruise ship hygiene, gaining over 150,000 comments on Instagram alone. Discussions have also appeared on Reddit, where users expressed surprise and concern over hygiene practices in the cruise’s dining areas.

“In the buffet dining area no less, people never stop surprising me,” a Reddit user commented.

Carnival Cruise Line emphasized their commitment to hygiene and cleanliness, stating that their crew works arduously to ensure a safe and clean environment for all passengers.

While this peculiar video has made waves online, interest in ocean cruises remains strong. According to the Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA), over 38 million people worldwide are expected to embark on ocean cruises this year. This number marks an increase from last year’s record-breaking 37.2 million passengers.
