CBP Officers Seize Over $300,000 Worth of Narcotics in One Day

3 weeks ago 0

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) agents seized more than $300,000 worth of narcotics from two separate vehicles in a single day, highlighting the ongoing efforts to control drug smuggling across the southern U.S. border. This occurrence underscores the determined attempts by smugglers to transport illegal substances into the country.

First Seizure at San Ysidro Port of Entry

On Sunday, May 17, CBP agents at the San Ysidro Port of Entry targeted a 2013 Honda Civic for secondary inspection. Using an imaging system, they identified irregularities in the car’s firewall. This led to the discovery of six packages containing white fentanyl powder valued at approximately $113,600, along with 8.4 pounds of cocaine estimated to be worth $161,600.

Second Seizure at Calexico East Port of Entry

On the same day, about 100 miles away at the Calexico East Port of Entry, agents inspected a 2011 Nissan Cube. Scans revealed anomalies in the vehicle’s flooring, leading to the find of 63 packets of methamphetamine. Officials recognized and commended both successful interdictions.

Sydney Aki, San Diego Director of Field Operations, stated, “Sunday may be a day of rest for many, but criminals don’t take days off, and neither do our CBP officers. Our officers remain vigilant around the clock, and these significant seizures are a direct result of their commitment to keeping dangerous drugs like these from entering our country.”

Efforts in Line with Federal Strategies

The CBP’s continued operation ties closely with strategies implemented by former President Donald Trump and DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin. Even with a significant decrease in immigration border crossings since the end of 2024, the agency continues to confront attempts to smuggle weapons, narcotics, and humans across the border.

From December 2024 to April, encounters at the border have drastically reduced from over 144,000 to 10,000. Despite this drop, CBP has documented several notable smuggling efforts.

High-Profile Smuggling Attempts

A recent CBP report detailed the prevention of a vehicle carrying a rocket-propelled grenade launcher from crossing the border. Additionally, agents discovered dozens of immigrants packed into a semi-truck and intercepted a boat off the Dominican Republic coast with assistance from a Black Hawk helicopter.

The CBP statement emphasized, “CBP officers along the southwest border stop illegal activity, including the smuggling of drugs and humans, and facilitate lawful entry for millions of legitimate travelers into the United States.”
