Michael Alter, owner of the Chicago Sky, announced on Tuesday that Enes Kanter Freedom is banned from Wintrust Arena. His statement followed Freedom’s confrontation with Natasha Cloud during a game on Sunday.
Freedom and Cloud engaged in a verbal altercation during the second half of the game between the Chicago Sky and the Indiana Fever. Freedom was seated close to the basket when his cheering for Sophie Cunningham led to a heated exchange. Freedom claimed that Cloud accused him of intending something inappropriate, which he denied.
Alter remarked that Freedom’s behavior represented a potential threat. He noted Freedom’s “chirping” at Cloud in the third quarter, which he characterized as provocative trash talk related to basketball.
Following the incident, Freedom was escorted out and prohibited from returning to the arena. His attendance at the game was his first since expressing interest in joining the WNBA.
Cloud did not address reporters after the game but posted a message supporting the transgender community. This message was interpreted as a response to Freedom, who wore a shirt with the definition of a woman.
Freedom, a former NBA player, faced hostility from fans upon arriving at the arena. He has expressed an ambition to enter the WNBA Draft and continues to face scrutiny for his stance on trans athletes in women’s sports.
