An internal investigation into the death of Chaofeng Ge has highlighted numerous policy breaches and errors by staff at a Pennsylvania immigration detention center managed by the Geo Group.
Chaofeng Ge, a 32-year-old Chinese immigrant and resident of Queens, lost his life last year while in custody at a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement facility. Reports indicate that Chaofeng had previously attempted suicide before his detention on July 31, 2025.
An internal review conducted by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement found critical oversights that contributed to his death. Notably, crucial medical records documenting Ge’s earlier suicide attempt and his prescription for antidepressants were not available during his initial screening. As a result, the attending nurse was unaware of his mental health history.
