Chrissy Metz Discusses Her Decision to Use GLP-1 Medication

1 hour ago 0

Chrissy Metz recently shared her journey of deciding to try the weight-loss medication GLP-1, after years of being skeptical about it. During an appearance on the “Today” show, the 45-year-old “This Is Us” star explained how entering perimenopause and reflecting on her family’s history of obesity led her to reconsider these medications.

“I was very skeptical about GLP-1s for years,” Metz revealed. She mentioned that a friend’s detailed explanation prompted her to see the potential benefits. Observing her father’s health struggles pushed her to consider preventive measures. “Maybe I should try and get ahead of it,” she thought.

Since starting the medication, Metz has noticed improved energy levels and overall health. Despite her initial fear, she emphasized that “longevity” is her main focus. “Learning what it really was and how it affects everybody differently,” she explained, “my doctor and my team were supportive.”

Metz acknowledged her nervousness but embraced the lifestyle change, incorporating strength training and exercise alongside the medication. “It’s not just, ‘Oh, I’m going to take a medication,’ because it’s not the easy way out,” she stated. She highlighted the importance of being diligent and prioritizing her health.

This decision is part of a broader conversation about Metz’s public journey with weight and health. Her role as Kate Pearson on NBC’s “This Is Us” brought attention to these issues, which have been part of her story long before Hollywood.

Metz previously discussed her challenging relationship with food and her experiences growing up. In 2024, she recalled facing mental, physical, and emotional abuse from her stepfather, including being weighed in the kitchen. She noted the growing awareness of “food, food issues, food behavior” compared to the past, and expressed her ongoing efforts to heal.
