Cody Bellinger Earns All-Star Game MVP Honor

In Philadelphia, amidst a backdrop of boos from the local crowd, New York Yankees outfielder Cody Bellinger turned negativity into triumph Tuesday night, securing the All-Star Game MVP award. This achievement came during the American League’s 4-0 victory over the National League at Citizens Bank Park.

Bellinger stepped up as a starting right fielder, filling in for injured teammate Aaron Judge and Byron Buxton of the Minnesota Twins. In the first inning, Bellinger faced NL Cy Young candidate Cristopher Sánchez. Responding to a sinker pitch, Bellinger hit a two-run single into center field. This pivotal moment set the tone for an otherwise uneventful game. Though he finished 1-for-3, his two RBIs were crucial. “The pitching was just absolutely dominant,” Bellinger commented post-game regarding his unexpected MVP win.

Legendary Mike Schmidt, a Hall of Famer and 12-time All-Star, presented the MVP award to Bellinger, who accepted surrounded by family. This marks the Yankees’ third All-Star MVP and the first since Giancarlo Stanton’s win in 2022.

Bellinger, a three-time All-Star, last played in the Midsummer Classic as an NL MVP for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2019. In his second season with New York, Bellinger signed a five-year, $162.5 million contract to continue his tenure in the Bronx.
