On Saturday afternoon, riders on a Green Line train heading towards Forest Park were evacuated due to a misalignment of its wheels, as reported by the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA). The train experienced the issue while approaching the Harlem/Lake station.
The misalignment occurred when the train passed through a track switch that had not completed its proper alignment. This situation resulted in the front and rear wheels being positioned on separate track segments. The CTA has clarified that this was not a derailment, as all train wheels remained on the tracks.
During the incident, buses were deployed to transport passengers through the affected areas until the Green Line was restored to normal operations. The CTA worked with crews to quickly address the problem. Additionally, the Oak Park Fire Department was present to ensure safe evacuation of the train’s passengers.
The CTA has not released detailed information regarding train delays or any station closures resulting from the incident. Furthermore, the Village of Oak Park has not responded to requests for comments.
