Dallas Wings’ Azzi Fudd to Undergo Season-Ending Knee Surgery

1 hour ago 0

Dallas Wings guard Azzi Fudd will have season-ending surgery on her sore knee, which has kept her out of the last five games. The team announced that she will undergo arthroscopic surgery on her right knee next week in Connecticut, where she played college basketball at UConn.

Fudd was the No. 1 overall pick this year, following in the footsteps of last year’s top pick and WNBA Rookie of the Year, Paige Bueckers, also chosen by Dallas. Fudd initially came off the bench for her first six games but quickly earned a starting role after scoring 24 points in her sixth outing. Her season highlight came in June with a 26-point game against Seattle.

Throughout 30 games, Fudd averaged 13.1 points. She participated in warmups for a home game against Golden State on August 7 but did not play due to ongoing knee soreness. Bueckers and Fudd were teammates at UConn, where they won the 2025 national championship before joining the Wings.

Since Fudd’s absence, Dallas has a 3-8 record after a six-game winning streak, their longest since moving to Texas 10 years ago. The Wings are looking to secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2023. They face Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever at the Dallas Mavericks’ home arena on Thursday night.
