Conducted between July 23-27, the survey shows Ocasio-Cortez, a notable progressive leader, with a 26 percent national favorability rating. Her unfavorable rating hits 36 percent.

Age Groups and Ocasio-Cortez’s Appeal

A deeper look reveals varied demographic support. Among adults aged 18 to 34, her favorability stands at 28 percent. This slight increase appears among those aged 35 to 49, where it reaches 30 percent.

The survey’s sample size comprised 1,225 respondents, with a margin of error of +/-3.2 at a 95 percent confidence level. These numbers highlight strategic complexities for Democrats needing to reconcile voter dissatisfaction with leadership.

Ocasio-Cortez’s Position in the Party

Ocasio-Cortez has clarified she will not pursue a presidential bid for 2028. Yet, she remains central in the progressive faction, leveraging her position as a leading fundraiser. Despite this, widespread national appeal is limited.

Newsweek reached out to her office and the Democratic National Committee for comments.

“My ambition is to change this country,” Ocasio-Cortez stated, emphasizing policy goals over personal political ambition.

About one-third of Democrats describe themselves as democratic socialists, revealing the lasting impact of progressive ideology. Many favor a leadership overhaul and strategic shift.

Despite Ocasio-Cortez’s significant social media presence and fundraising capabilities, her favorability falls short compared to typical national figures who rate between 40 to 50 percent.

Potential 2028 Democratic Candidates

Looking ahead, several figures might enter the 2028 race. Vice President Kamala Harris expressed the possibility of running again, reflecting on her experience near the presidency.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also discussed potential candidacy but remains noncommittal.

Meanwhile, Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff ruled out his interest in pursuing the presidency, focusing on reelection efforts.
