A couple residing near Detroit is facing charges for allegedly throwing an explosive device into their neighbor’s yard, as confirmed by local prosecutors.
Jason Showers, 45, and his wife, Megan Showers, 38, both from St. Clair Shores, Michigan, could face lengthy prison terms if convicted. The incident occurred on Monday, and the Macomb County Prosecutor’s Office is handling the case.
Incident Details
Prosecutors reported that Megan Showers ignited a red, cylindrical explosive labeled “BYE BYE” before Jason Showers threw it into their 72-year-old neighbor’s yard. The neighbor successfully extinguished the device, according to authorities.
Law enforcement searched the Showers’ residence and found firearms, ammunition, and materials for constructing explosive devices, as stated by the prosecutors.

Legal Proceedings and Charges
Jason and Megan Showers face charges for placing explosives near property and possessing bombs with unlawful intent. Both felonies carry maximum penalties of 15 years in prison. Additionally, Jason Showers is charged with being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm and ammunition, each punishable by up to five years in prison.
Jason also faces two counts of felony firearm possession, each with a mandatory two-year sentence to be served consecutively. As a habitual offender with four prior felony convictions, a life sentence is possible for him if found guilty on any of the four main charges.
Bail Conditions and Court Appearance
The couple appeared in court for the first time on Wednesday, and their probable cause hearing is set for August 14.
The judge set Jason Showers’ bond at $100,000 cash-only, and he remains in Macomb County Jail. If released on bond, he must wear a steel cuff GPS tether and avoid returning home or contacting his wife or the neighbor.
Megan Showers’ bond is $20,000 with the option of paying 10% through a bail bondsman. She is allowed to return home but cannot interact with her husband or the neighbor.
