Criticism of Local Leadership
Mullin criticized New York’s Democratic leadership. He specifically mentioned Governor Kathy Hochul and Mayor Zohran Mamdani. Mullin accused them of not supporting law enforcement effectively.
According to Mullin, Operation Rotten Apple was necessary due to New York City’s mayor wanting to cut the NYPD budget by $22 million and not cooperating with federal law enforcement. The operation led to over 2,100 arrests across the state.
Cases Highlighted
Mullin provided details about some arrestees. One was a 39-year-old from India with an INTERPOL notice for a rape charge in Germany. Another was a 50-year-old Ukrainian with convictions for kidnapping, weapon possession, and murder.
Policy and Safety Concerns
Mullin argued that city and state sanctuary policies were to blame for these individuals remaining free. He stressed that while sanctuary states protect illegal immigrants, ICE officers work daily to ensure American safety.
He stated that Democratic leaders secured the release of over 13,000 illegal immigrants. Mullin called on these leaders to stop hindering the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
287(g) Program and Federal Coordination
Mullin criticized Governor Hochul for canceling 287(g) agreements. These agreements allow local law enforcement to work with federal agents. He cited examples of safe cities that participate in this program.
He noted that many law enforcement leaders want to collaborate with federal agencies. However, local political barriers prevent this. Mullin praised officials who resist such interference. He emphasized that restoring law and order has broad public support.
The federal government is prepared to deploy more agents to cities where local leadership does not cooperate. President Trump supports these efforts to restore safety in New York and other locations.
