An emergency response team was deployed at Miami International Airport following an Amazon cargo plane overrun. The incident occurred when the plane struck several vehicles and ignited while landing around 2 p.m. local time. Authorities from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, and airport officials reported the accident to Fox News Digital.
Prime Air Flight 7598 exceeded the limits of Miami International Airport’s diagonal runway, becoming immobile at the airport’s northwest end. The fire resulting from the crash summoned more than 60 fire units to the scene, where multiple individuals required attention.
Units arrived to find an airplane that had caught on fire as a result of this crash, with heavy flames and smoke showing. Firefighters are working on extinguishing the fire and assessing patients.
According to Miami-Dade Fire Rescue, details regarding the number of injuries or fatalities have not yet been disclosed.
An Amazon spokesperson confirmed the occurrence of an incident during the plane’s landing attempt. The spokesperson emphasized the priority is ensuring the safety and well-being of those involved. They also stated that collaboration with local authorities is ongoing to determine precise details of the event.
The cargo plane, a Boeing 767-300, departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The emergency call was recorded by County CAD records at around 1:55 p.m.
The FAA’s Air Traffic Control System Command Center announced a ground stop at Miami International Airport, effective at least until 4:30 p.m. All runways and taxiways were closed at 3:00 p.m. as first responders assessed the situation.
The FAA will conduct an investigation into the incident. Department of Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy noted that the scene is under assessment and travelers should anticipate delays or cancellations. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
