5 hours ago 0

A convicted killer, who escaped from a Tennessee prison, was captured near Kansas City, Missouri, after a nine-day manhunt. Jacob Morley, 28, who was serving a life sentence for murder, managed to evade authorities by fleeing through a prison fence at the Northwest Correctional Complex in northwestern Tennessee.

Details of the Escape

Morley’s escape began on the night of October 25. Authorities believe he traveled approximately 127 miles to a farm near Marion, Illinois. He spent time in a shed where he consumed beer and prepared food such as garlic bread. Law enforcement discovered an apology note he left behind after stealing a truck. Additionally, Morley is suspected of taking clothing and three firearms from the property.

Tracking Morley

Troopers used roadside cameras and a helicopter to ultimately locate him. His truck became stuck in the mud, leading to his capture. Security footage captured him walking away from an abandoned vehicle and at other spots along Route 13, which included fields and woods, complicating the search.

There is no indication that Morley received assistance during his escape. Kim Wheeler-Elder of the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation confirmed the release of all known information regarding his movements during the period he was on the run.

Legal Proceedings

Following his recapture, Morley was taken to the Lafayette County jail in Lexington, Missouri. He faces charges of unlawful flight to avoid prosecution and, in Missouri, being a felon in possession of a firearm. Federal court documents in Tennessee already charged him with these offenses.

Morley’s initial conviction stemmed from the murder of Cody Birchfield in 2022. Birchfield’s body was discovered under Morley’s home, prompting a police chase that ended in North Carolina. Morley was convicted of first-degree murder, aggravated burglary, and other charges.
