Residents of Georgia’s 13th Congressional District have chosen Everton Blair to complete the remainder of Rep. David Scott’s term. Scott passed away in April.
Blair, who once chaired the Gwinnett County School Board, beat Scott’s daughter, Marcye Scott, in Tuesday’s special election runoff, as projected by The Associated Press. Blair had initially come second to Scott among five candidates in a nonpartisan special election held on July 28. This led both to advance to the runoff.
Blair will only serve the last few months of David Scott’s term, ending in January, since he did not secure the Democratic nomination for the upcoming full term. He finished third in the May 19 Democratic primary.
In November, voters will decide whether Democratic state Rep. Jasmine Clark or Republican Jonathan Chavez will undertake the full two-year term starting in January. The 13th District often leans Democratic. David Scott won his 2024 re-election with approximately 72% of the vote, while Vice President Kamala Harris received about 71% of the vote in the district.
There are 70 days left until the 2026 midterm elections.
