An ex-NYPD officer faces second-degree murder charges in connection with the stabbing death of a Brooklyn jogger. Sayed Mohassib was seen leaving a police station in handcuffs on Saturday.
Mohassib is accused of killing Katie Suarez, who was attacked on October 30 while jogging along a popular Brooklyn path. The 28-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times in the neck during this unprovoked incident.
Witnesses described Mohassib wearing a red Van Dutch jacket, black shirt, and jeans during his arrest. Reports indicate he showed little emotion as police escorted him away.
According to the New York Post, Mohassib claimed he awoke covered in blood with no memory of the attack. He admitted to discarding the knife involved in the crime.
Katie Suarez met her tragic end on a widely-traveled track for runners and cyclists. Authorities continue to investigate the incident.
Mohassib’s background includes a brief stint with the NYPD and attempted service with the Marines, from which he was discharged as unfit, the New York Post reports.
