1 hour ago 0

A traffic stop in Miami-Dade ended tragically on Wednesday night when a wanted suspect caused a fatal crash while fleeing from deputies. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office reported this incident.

The event occurred at 7:42 p.m. when deputies stopped 21-year-old Luis Manuel Perez at Northwest 51st Terrace and 33rd Avenue. During the stop, authorities discovered Perez had an outstanding warrant. Upon learning this, Perez drove away.

As deputies pursued him, Perez entered a dead-end street. Upon turning around, he ignored a stop sign and collided with another vehicle, causing it to overturn. The collision also involved an unmarked sheriff’s office vehicle occupied by a deputy searching for Perez.

The driver of the civilian vehicle was transported by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue to Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition. Unfortunately, the driver later succumbed to the injuries at the hospital. Authorities have not disclosed the driver’s identity.

Perez was eventually captured at Northwest 53rd Street and 33rd Avenue, according to his arrest affidavit. He was taken to a hospital for assessment. His arrest affidavit indicates a military hold on Perez.

The Traffic Homicide unit of the sheriff’s office is conducting an investigation into the crash. Updates will follow as more information becomes available.
