FBI Agents Fatally Shoot Bank Robbery Suspect in Chicago

4 weeks ago 0

Abdulhafedh Abdulhafedh, 25, was shot and killed by FBI agents in West Garfield Park. He was involved in a bank robbery crew responsible for several robberies in nearby suburbs, according to new court documents.

Abdulhafedh had been released from prison less than six months ago after serving time for a bank robbery in Will County. He was also wanted in DuPage County for possession of a stolen car related to an arrest in Elmhurst earlier this year. His home address is unknown, and his family could not be reached for comment.

The Cook County medical examiner reported Abdulhafedh died of multiple gunshot wounds and ruled his death a homicide. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. Thursday on the 3700 block of West Lexington Street.

An FBI spokesperson stated agents stopped a vehicle occupied by suspects linked to a violent bank robbery.

Charging documents identified Abdulhafedh as “Co-Conspirator A” to Dayvon Walton, who is allegedly the mastermind of the “100K gang.” This group is accused of several bank robberies in the Chicago area, including a notable robbery at a BMO Harris bank in St. Charles on April 21.

A social media video captures the incident, showing a suspect shooting from a sunroof after agents stopped the vehicle on May 28, 2026. The FBI already recognized Abdulhafedh from prior investigations of at least five BMO Harris Bank locations in Chicago.

The affidavit states Walton and two others were in a black SUV driven by Abdulhafedh when agents stopped them Thursday. While Walton and the others fled, Abdulhafedh remained in the vehicle.

The video shows armed agents surrounding the SUV, which the driver attempted to flee. An agent used a flash grenade, breaking the sunroof. The driver then fired at agents, who returned fire.

The FBI emphasized the seriousness with which it treats shooting incidents involving agents. The matter is under internal review.

Walton was captured later and confessed to involvement in the April robberies during an interview without an attorney present. Abdulhafedh’s criminal history includes a 2023 conviction for robbing a Will County bank and a Cook County conviction for possession of a stolen vehicle and aggravated fleeing.
