FBI Director Kash Patel spoke exclusively with Kayleigh McEnany to detail the Bureau’s accomplishments in combating crime and fraud during the Trump administration. Patel highlighted a significant reduction in violent crime by 185%, the rescue of over 7,000 children from predators, and the dismantling of millions of pedophile accounts. He also noted successful resolutions of two hostage situations and efforts to combat over $8 billion in fraud networks.
The FBI celebrated the first anniversary of the Trump administration’s crime crackdown in Washington, D.C., emphasizing thousands of arrests and seizures. This effort was part of the Safe and Beautiful initiative launched by President Donald Trump to increase federal law enforcement’s presence in the nation’s capital.
Last summer, President Trump made the historic decision to surge federal resources to Washington D.C. to crack down on crime – and thanks to his brilliant leadership, the work of brave FBI agents and our law enforcement partners, and the support of our Justice Department, our nation’s capital is now safer than it’s been in decades.
The FBI, over the past year, has worked with partners to achieve over 6,000 arrests, nearly 2,000 drug seizures, and over 1,300 illegal firearm seizures. Homicides in Washington, D.C. have decreased by 44% compared to the previous year, with a total of 6,121 arrests, 237 search warrants, and the recovery of $252,592 in cash.
Patel assured that federal enforcement efforts would persist, aiming to ensure that the capital reflects the safety and dignity expected by American taxpayers. Democrat leaders, including then-Mayor Muriel Bowser, expressed concerns over the National Guard’s deployment for these initiatives, questioning its legal grounds.
Despite this criticism, Director Patel stated that historic progress has been made, and the efforts for a safer Washington, D.C., will continue. The broader enforcement response followed high-profile violent crimes in the city, including the murders of a congressional intern and a 14-year-old boy, linked to alleged gang involvement.
