A Florida police department has gained significant attention after launching a social media campaign designed to enhance recruitment and bridge the gap between officers and the local community. The campaign, initiated by the Ocala Police Department, has become a viral sensation, amassing millions of views by highlighting the personal side of law enforcement personnel.
Officer Sean Price discussed the campaign on ‘Fox & Friends Weekend,’ emphasizing the role of social media in casting a positive light on the police force. ‘Social media allows us to reveal the personal side of our work,’ Price explained. ‘It’s important to show that we have personalities beyond the uniform.’
The campaign’s latest video, part of the ‘We Do’ series, features officers in relatable situations, cleverly paired with the song ‘Daddy’s Home’ by Usher. Emphasizing the various ways officers serve the community, the video humorously poses questions like ‘Does he open your door?’ and ‘Does he listen to you?’ Each question is answered with ‘We do,’ illustrating the officers’ commitment to their roles.
The video, which has garnered over 19 million views on Facebook, further humanizes the badge according to Corporal Alexandria Blackman. She stated, ‘This helps us connect with the community, showing a lighter side of our work.’
Price anticipates the campaign’s positive reception could lead to an increase in recruitment applications. ‘The attention we’ve received on social media might translate into more people wanting to join the force,’ he noted.
Officer Clayton Brown shared advice for those contemplating a career in law enforcement: ‘Understand your reasons for joining. If your goal is to serve the community, be prepared for challenging situations. We’re looking for dedicated individuals, so if you have the passion, consider joining.’
