In November, a special election will determine who will take over the U.S. Senate seat vacated by Marco Rubio. Rubio resigned to become the secretary of state. This election will fill his term, set to last through 2028.
Senator Ashley Moody, a Republican from Florida, currently holds the seat on a temporary basis. She aims to win her party’s nomination to continue until the term ends. Previously, she served as the state attorney general.
On the Democratic side, two contenders are vying for the nomination to face Moody. State Representative Angie Nixon is one option. The other is retired Lt. Col. Alex Vindman. Vindman is notably recognized for his involvement in the impeachment hearings of former President Donald Trump.
