A former St. Louis news anchor, Angelynn “Angie” Mock, received a life sentence for the fatal stabbing of her mother in Kansas on Halloween. She will be eligible for parole after 25 years, per a Sedgwick County District Court judge.
Mock entered a plea agreement on the first-degree murder charge. Officers discovered her mother, Anita Avers, 80, with multiple stab wounds in their Wichita, Kansas, home on the morning of October 31, 2025.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Mock made statements suggesting she believed her mother was the devil and killed her to “save herself.” Mock’s stepfather mentioned she had been diagnosed with mental illness, including delusions and depression, possibly related to bipolar disorder, which was later suspected to be schizoaffective disorder.
Despite these claims, a judge deemed her competent for trial in July, and Mock pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in August. Following her arrest, she was held at the Sedgwick County Jail.
Mock had transitioned to a career in software sales after working as a news anchor for Fox 2 KTVI in St. Louis from 2011 to 2015. Before this, she was a morning anchor at KOKH-TV in Oklahoma City from 2007 to 2011.
