Former Transportation Secretary Visits China Amid Senator’s Hospitalization

4 weeks ago 0

Elaine Chao, former Transportation Secretary and wife of Senator Mitch McConnell, traveled to China during a period when her husband was hospitalized. Despite rumors about McConnell’s health, his condition was not alarming enough for Chao to cancel her trip, according to a spokesperson.

“The secretary was on a long-planned trip in China to support her family’s philanthropic endeavors,” the spokesperson explained. “During the trip, she met with various people, including the U.S. ambassador. The Senator’s health did not warrant an immediate return to the U.S.”

Senator McConnell, hospitalized for three weeks, remains at the center of speculation regarding his health status and return plans. His office has not disclosed details about his condition, leaving room for online rumors to thrive. Conservative commentator Laura Loomer claimed that a “high-level source” suggested McConnell was “brain dead.” However, the White House did not comment on these claims, and McConnell’s office reiterated support for the Senator’s recovery.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” a spokesperson stated. “The Senator continues to improve and remains actively engaged with his staff on both Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is on break.”

Efforts to quash rumors are ongoing, with Senate Republican leaders actively communicating with McConnell. Senate Majority Leader John Thune and Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso confirmed recent conversations with the Senator. Thune’s spokesperson noted they discussed national security topics, while Barrasso’s spokeswoman highlighted discussions on Senate races, scandals, and legislative priorities.

McConnell’s engagement in these discussions signals his eagerness to resume Senate responsibilities, including passing significant legislation and confirming key appointments.
