Darline Graham Nordone has taken on the role of interim U.S. senator for South Carolina, following her brother Lindsey Graham’s unexpected passing. She was officially sworn in earlier this month, marking a historic moment as the first female senator from South Carolina and the first sister of a former senator to be appointed to the U.S. Senate.
This news comes after South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster appointed her to fulfill the remainder of her brother’s term. The decision was backed by former President Donald Trump, with Senator Tim Scott of South Carolina also playing a key role by communicating with Graham and later joining her public appearance in Columbia, South Carolina.
Lindsey Graham died at the age of 71 in Washington, D.C., shortly after his return from a trip to Kyiv. During his visit, he conferred with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy concerning a new sanctions package against Russia. Preliminary findings from the D.C. Office of the Chief Medical Examiner cited an aortic dissection due to arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease as the cause of death, although further testing is ongoing.
Darline Graham’s new role will see her continue her brother’s legacy of public service. She is expected to make her first televised interview since her appointment with Sean Hannity on Fox News Channel’s “Hannity” show. The interview will provide an opportunity to discuss her brother’s contributions and her own plans for representing the people of South Carolina.
