Highlights from Disney’s D23 2023 Entertainment Showcase

Marvel’s X-Men are poised for a debut. The film’s cast appeared on stage at the Disney Entertainment Showcase at D23 for the first time. Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced Sadie Sink as Jean Grey, a role previously kept secret. The rest of the X-Men cast includes Kit Connor as Cyclops, Christopher Abbott as Professor Charles Xavier, Samara Weaving as Emma Frost, Inde Navarrette as Rogue, and Maya Boyd as Storm. Adam Driver, appearing via video, will play the antagonist Nathaniel Milbury, also known as Mr. Sinister. The film is slated for release on May 5, 2028.

The Disney Entertainment Showcase, hosted at the Honda Center, is a key event within D23. Different divisions of Walt Disney Studios, like Lucasfilm, Pixar, and Disney Animation, present their upcoming projects during this three-day fan event. New CEO Josh D’Amaro received an enthusiastic reception from over 12,000 Disney fans attending the showcase. Marvel’s Uncertain TV Future

Marvel Studios highlighted ‘VisionQuest’, a new Disney+ series with Paul Bettany as Vision and James Spader as Ultron. Following the events of ‘WandaVision’, Vision explores his identity and humanity. Despite anticipation for more TV content, ‘VisionQuest’ was the only new series announcement. Recent cancellations and a scaling back on live-action Disney+ projects suggest uncertainty in Marvel’s television future. ‘VisionQuest’ will premiere on October 14.

Lucasfilm President Dave Filoni shared footage from ‘Ahsoka’ Season 2 and ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’. A surprise appearance by Rosario Dawson alongside Hayden Christensen and Eman Esfandi delighted fans. Christensen continues to portray Anakin Skywalker, guiding Ahsoka in her journey. Director Shawn Levy and Ryan Gosling unveiled updates for ‘Star Wars: Starfighter’, exploring an untapped time period.

Nostalgia Takes the Spotlight

Disney revived beloved franchises with sequels like ‘Romy and Michele 2’, starring Lisa Kudrow and Mira Sorvino, and ‘Princess Diaries 3’ with Anne Hathaway. Teasers for ‘Camp Rock 3’, ‘Tangled’, and ‘Frozen III’ kept fans excited. Director Jon Favreau premiered ‘Oswald the Lucky Rabbit’, a mix of live-action and animation, due in February.
