ICE Agent Involved in Shooting in Austin, Texas

An Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agent shot a man in Austin, Texas, on Sunday. The shooting incident led to the man’s hospitalization, as reported by local authorities.

Council Member Mike Siegel provided details about the event in a video interview with local news outlet KVUE. According to Siegel, an ICE vehicle blocked a civilian car, sideswiped it, and then an ICE officer shot the driver. Siegel also mentioned that the vehicle had two bullet holes in the back and that the injured man was taken to the hospital approximately an hour after the event.

The man’s current condition remains unknown, and the circumstances surrounding the shooting are unclear. Siegel emphasized the need for a thorough investigation, expressing his desire for both federal and city police involvement to ensure that the public receives factual information and that the investigation is conducted properly.

Officials plan to hold a press conference at 4 p.m. local time to provide additional details. Video footage shared on social media depicts an ICE agent approaching a blue car, seemingly damaged on the passenger side, while holding a weapon.

The Austin Police Department directed inquiries to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) when contacted for comments. Newsweek also reached out to DHS for more information on Sunday.

Democratic Representative Greg Casar condemned the shooting on social media, calling for an independent investigation and the release of body camera footage. Representative Casar criticized ICE for repeatedly shooting individuals and allegedly lying about incidents.

State Representative Vikki Goodwin confirmed the shooting as ICE-related, indicating that Austin police were present for traffic control and that further information would be disclosed. This shooting is among several involving federal agents since President Donald Trump began his second term in office in 2025.
