New Jersey reported street flooding in multiple communities. Queens, New York, also faced residential flooding. Emergency officials warned of ongoing risks as high-tide cycles continue.
Norfolk, Virginia saw isolated flooding, impacting road conditions. Maryland’s Ocean City faced beach erosion and flood threats due to heavy surf.
Power Outages Surge
Strong winds caused widespread power outages. Gusts exceeded 50 mph, disrupting services across New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Connecticut. Over 91,000 customers were affected. Utilities cautioned that continuing high winds might slow restoration work.
New York Governor Kathy Hochul warned of enduring outages as winds persist. She noted more rain was expected.
Travel Disruptions Continue
The storm significantly impacted air travel, especially in New England. Boston Logan International Airport faced over 250 cancellations. Smaller Massachusetts airports saw more severe disruption. Federal officials warned of expanding flight restrictions.
New York’s major airports recorded numerous delays. Ground stops might be needed if conditions worsen. Rail services in Connecticut and Massachusetts were suspended due to weather issues.
Forecast Anticipates More Challenges
Expect 2 to 6 inches of rain across the Northeast, with high totals on eastern Long Island and coastal Massachusetts. Forecasts predict coastal flood warnings until Sunday evening.
Long Island, along with New York City’s coastal areas, face renewed flooding risks as high tides continue. Residents are advised to avoid beaches and waterfronts.
