Federal prosecutors recently requested the dismissal of charges against former U.S. Olympic canoeist David Hearn. The charges related to damage at the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool.
On Friday, prosecutors asked a judge to dismiss the indictment, initially charging Hearn with damaging government property. They cited new evidence indicating that the damage resulted from a contractor’s installation error, not Hearn’s actions.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in D.C. had accused Hearn of causing over $1,000 worth of damage to new sealant applied to the pool’s bottom. This sealant was part of a project supported by President Trump. Hearn rejected these accusations.
While the U.S. Attorney’s Office has not provided comments, CBS News reached out to the Justice Department and Hearn’s legal team for more information.
