Jacob Tierney, creator of the HBO Max hit show ‘Heated Rivalry’, offers a glimpse into what fans can expect in Season 2. Speaking on ‘CBS Mornings’, Tierney announced that the new season will premiere in ‘late spring’. Although he did not provide a specific date, he assured fans that more details will follow.

Tierney highlighted that the next season will delve into the relationship between characters Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, portrayed by Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie. This will be inspired by ‘The Long Game’, part of Rachel Reid’s ‘Game Changers’ hockey romance series. ‘My focus is on Shane and Ilya as we track their relationship,’ Tierney stated. New characters and couples will also be introduced, expanding the show’s universe.

The second season aims to portray how Shane and Ilya’s ‘quiet happiness at the end of Season 1’ affects their future lives. The storytelling will use intimacy as a key element. Tierney explained that he intended for the intimate scenes to drive the narrative. ‘I wanted the sex scenes to reveal character insights through their interactions,’ he explained, emphasizing authenticity over gratuitous content.

Tierney is also sharing behind-the-scenes insights in his new book, ‘I’ll Believe in Anything: The Making of Heated Rivalry Season 1′. The book outlines the production process and discusses the significance of intimate scenes, which were designed to highlight the characters’ communication barriers.

Music selection played a pivotal role in the series, especially in episode five, which centered around ‘I’ll Believe in Anything’ by Wolf Parade. Tierney expressed a personal connection to the music discovered in his early 20s. ‘Music from youth holds significant meaning,’ he noted. He believes many of these tracks deserved more recognition. ‘These songs hold great meaning for me. I often wonder why they weren’t major hits,’ Tierney remarked.
