Jen Psaki Discusses Democratic Messaging Challenges Amid Trump’s Media Presence

2 weeks ago 0

MS NOW host Jen Psaki expressed concern that the Democratic Party is struggling to gain attention in the current media landscape, largely due to President Donald Trump’s ongoing dominance of news cycles. During a conversation with former ABC News journalist Terry Moran, Psaki acknowledged that despite high enthusiasm levels among Democrats, the party’s messaging often centers around being anti-Trump, which limits their broader appeal.

Psaki noted, “It has taken some time for a lot of the leading Democratic voices to move from just anti-Trump to more than anti-Trump. To, ‘We’re not for Trump, but here’s what we’re offering.’” She reflected on the potential role that media figures, including herself, may play in this dynamic, attributing some blame to the difficulty of highlighting Democratic policies amid Trump’s attention-grabbing actions.

Because the things Trump is doing every day are so crazy, it is hard for Democrats to break through with, ‘Here’s my plan for covering children under the age of six with additional health care benefits. Here’s my plan for giving more assistance to pre-K,’” Psaki explained.

The challenge lies in deciding how to diversify program content beyond the frequent focus on Trump-related news. Psaki questioned, “Maybe that’s a mistake,” suggesting that the public might not be adequately informed about Democratic plans meant to improve lives.

Agreeing with Psaki, Moran noted the dilemma faced by journalists: covering Trump’s chaotic presence or focusing on his administration’s policies. “He is chaos and dominates every second of every day as much as he can,” Moran remarked, highlighting the difficulty in prioritizing news coverage.

Previously, Psaki had discussed the significant time spent by some left-leaning individuals on discussing the 25th Amendment against Trump, commenting that it might not be a constructive use of their efforts. “I mean, you’ve talked about the 25th Amendment,” she said, adding, “I have no issue with people saying they’re for invoking the 25th Amendment, but it’s not going to happen.”
