Kane County Warning on Jail-Related Scam

1 hour ago 0

The Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office recently issued a warning about a scam targeting families of inmates held in the Kane County jail. Scammers are reportedly calling family members, asking for a $2,000 retainer fee to secure the inmate’s release.

Authorities clarified that neither the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office nor the Kane County Sheriff’s Office will ever directly request money for any reason. Additionally, officials emphasized that Illinois does not operate under a cash bail system.

Scammers might use an inmate’s full name or personal details to seem legitimate; however, the State’s Attorney’s Office warned that such information is publicly accessible and does not verify the call’s legitimacy.

Individuals receiving suspicious calls should immediately disconnect and verify the request by contacting the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office directly at 630-232-3500.
