Kara Robinson Chamberlain: Survivor Turned True-Crime Host

43 minutes ago 0

Kara Robinson Chamberlain was only 15 when a serial killer abducted her. Today, she seeks answers for unsolved cases that have puzzled authorities for years.

Chamberlain leads “Somebody Knows Something,” a true-crime series by ABC News Studios and Freeform. The show explores unresolved disappearances and murders, hoping renewed attention will break these cold cases. Chamberlain, working with affected families, revisits one case each episode.

Personal Journey

Chamberlain’s journey started over two decades ago when Richard Evonitz abducted her from a friend’s home in South Carolina on June 24, 2002. Chamberlain’s intuition initially sensed danger when Evonitz arrived. Despite her initial doubts, she quieted her instincts and later regretted the decision.

Evonitz approached her with pamphlets before holding a gun to her neck and forcing her into a car. She was held in his South Carolina apartment, where she endured assault. Remarkably, she remained calm and memorized details about her surroundings.

Her escape from captivity involved freeing herself after her captor fell asleep. Chamberlain then sought help from people in a nearby parking lot, who took her to the police. Her composure and memory provided law enforcement with critical information leading to Evonitz’s location.

Beyond Her Ordeal

Evonitz evaded capture but ultimately died by suicide as police pursued him in Sarasota, Florida. Investigation revealed his link to the murders of three girls from Spotsylvania County, Virginia. Evidence showed Evonitz had targeted other potential victims as well.

Chamberlain identifies strongly with families still searching for missing loved ones or seeking justice. She argues against the notion of “closure,” believing that trauma remains even when cases are resolved.

Courage and Advocacy

After her ordeal, Chamberlain completed training at the South Carolina Criminal Justice Academy, joining the same sheriff’s department that investigated her abduction. Her experience aids her interactions with families on the show.

The series “Somebody Knows Something” airs on Freeform and streams on Hulu, continuing Chamberlain’s efforts to bring attention to unresolved cases.

Chamberlain remains dedicated to using her experience to assist others, embodying resilience and determination. Her work provides a voice to those seeking the truth about their loved ones.
