Karoline Leavitt, the White House press secretary and a prominent supporter of the “Make America Great Again” movement, will step down from her role at the end of the month. President Trump made this announcement on Wednesday.
Leavitt recently returned to her position after a short maternity leave following the birth of her second child in May. At 28 years old, she holds the distinction of being the youngest person to have served as press secretary.
In a statement on social media, Trump referred to Leavitt as one of his “most trusted aides”. He mentioned that her decision to leave stems from a desire to spend more time with her family. “Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisers,” Trump noted, adding that she will remain an influential figure within the Republican Party, especially as they focus on the upcoming Midterm Elections. Trump did not indicate who would take over Leavitt’s responsibilities.
Leavitt, a mother of two, explained her departure in an emotional social media post. “Since returning to the White House after my daughter’s birth, I have realized I can’t fully commit the time and energy required as press secretary while also being the mother my children deserve,” she stated.
This shift marks a new chapter in her career, as she transitions to advising outside the official role. The move underlines the balancing act many parents face between professional responsibilities and family duties.
