Steve and Kristi Goncalves, parents of murdered University of Idaho student Kaylee Goncalves, recently shared their emotional journey and challenges on Sean Hannity’s show. They discussed the investigation, the impact on their family, and their fight for justice.
Revelations from the Investigation
The Goncalves family revealed details about the investigation into the University of Idaho murders. Bryan Kohberger, who was found guilty of killing four students, has had his DNA linked to the crime through evidence found on a knife sheath at the scene.
Struggle with Forgiveness
Kristi Goncalves expressed her inner conflict about forgiving Kohberger. Although religious principles encourage forgiveness, both Kristi and Steve find it difficult given the lack of remorse shown by Kohberger. Kristi mentioned, “According to the Bible, we need to forgive him, but Steve said he’s never asked for forgiveness.”
Impact on Family
The brutal nature of the crime has left a lasting impact on the Goncalves family. Kristi described her daughter’s unrecognizable facial injuries, while Steve referred to the killings as Kohberger’s fulfillment of a sick “fantasy.” The couple characterized Kohberger as lacking humanity.
Kristi shared her conversations with God, saying, “God, I know I’m supposed to forgive him, but how? How do I forgive a demon? Am I supposed to forgive the devil?”
Legal Challenges and Frustrations
Kohberger, who initially pleaded guilty to avoid the death penalty, is now seeking to withdraw his guilty plea. This move has frustrated the victims’ families, including the Goncalves. Steve warned that if any appeal is entertained, he will “blast this case through the roof.”
The Goncalves remain dedicated to seeking justice and supporting cold case investigations through their foundation, ensuring the victims’ legacy endures.
