A resident of Chicago’s North Side, Leo Feler, announced legal action against the federal government on Tuesday. The lawsuit addresses an immigration raid executed without a warrant on October 24, during a campaign called “Operation Midway Blitz.”
Feler claims U.S. Customs and Border Protection agents stormed his Lakeview property, targeting construction workers at his house. The agents detained one laborer and reportedly used tear gas, leaving damage and distress in their wake.

Filed in the Northern District Court of Illinois, Feler’s complaint identifies the U.S. government and the involved agents as defendants, accusing them of trespassing and negligence. The lawsuit seeks around $30,000 for property damage, including destruction to an air conditioner, fences, and stains from blood inside the house. Feler argues these actions violated his Fourth Amendment rights.
At the crux of the issue, Feler emphasizes the need for those invited onto his property to feel secure, a sentiment echoed in the formal complaint. Representatives of the U.S. Customs and Border Protection and the Department of Homeland Security did not provide immediate comments on the matter.
