Lincoln Riley, the head coach of the USC Trojans, is still in pursuit of his first College Football Playoff appearance with the program. Despite falling short in each of his first four years, Riley remains optimistic about his role in restoring the Trojans to national prominence.
Currently, the Trojans hold a 6-2 record. While they are not yet strong CFP contenders, a robust finish to the season might enhance their chances. There have been rumors regarding Riley’s future, suggesting a possible separation between Riley and USC, either initiated by the coach or the university.
“If I didn’t want to be at this place, I wouldn’t have come here in the first place,” Riley stated in a press conference. “I’ve had plenty of opportunities to leave. This is where I want to be.”
USC has consistently finished above .500 under Riley’s leadership. However, the program has not regained its past powerhouse status. If USC aims to be annual CFP contenders, there is speculation about potential changes in leadership.
The upcoming games pose significant challenges. Three of the Trojans’ final four games are against top Big Ten teams, including No. 4 Indiana and No. 7 UCLA, alongside Ohio State. Success in these games could secure Riley’s position and boost USC’s playoff prospects.
