A British man has been arrested for allegedly pushing a 3-year-old boy into a crocodile enclosure at a zoo. The incident occurred at Johnsons of Old Hurst, a farm and zoo located in Huntingdon, England. The child sustained critical injuries, though he did not know the suspect.
The suspect, 30, faces attempted murder charges but was released from custody on bail. Authorities say he is not fit for an interview, and the investigation continues. The man remains unidentified.
The child is recovering in stable condition after suffering a broken arm and pelvis. Tracey Johnson, the wife of the zoo’s owner, rescued the boy from the crocodile, displaying courage and selflessness.
The villager noted that Tracey Johnson put herself in “immense danger” during the rescue, highlighting her bravery.
The zoo’s tropical house will stay closed until further notice. The zoo’s owners expressed their care and concern, stating on social media that their thoughts and prayers are with the child’s family.
Cambridgeshire police, who are managing the investigation, noted the severity of the situation. Huntingdonshire district councillor Charlotte Lowe expressed disbelief, noting that the zoo had appropriate safety protocols in place.
