In early July, the Miami Marlins looked unstoppable in Major League Baseball. The team was ten games above .500 and was the hottest in the league. Their pitching was impressive, their hitting timely, and their home games at loanDepot Park were setting records.

Acknowledgment came for Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara as he celebrated achieving 1,002 career strikeouts against the Texas Rangers at loanDepot Park. This was a high point for the Marlins.

However, since then, their fortunes have changed dramatically. The Marlins hit a ten-game losing streak, dropping them out of the playoff race as August began. While their bullpen was once dominant, it began to struggle, squandering games. Their offense also dried up at a critical time when contenders need to perform their best.

Long-time Marlins fans, aware of past letdowns, anticipated such a downfall. The franchise has known hardships, from trades to collapses and injuries. For seasoned fans, optimistic praise from outsiders seemed premature, and their instincts were correct.

An example of their misfortunes came when Miami’s Eury Perez was removed in the middle of a potential perfect game, sparking controversy. Although the Marlins won, many fans felt divine retribution awaited.

Ultimately, some supporters, including myself, wonder if investing hope in the team is worthwhile. With the postseason light dimming, attention may soon shift to football season.
