Mississippi Pastor Sets Unofficial Record with 96-Hour Sermon

3 days ago 0

A pastor in Mississippi, Matt Olson, preached from the Bible for 96 hours, surpassing the previous record for marathon speaking held by Ananta Ram KC of Nepal. Olson covered the entire Bible, from Genesis to Revelation, over four days. He followed guidelines allowing five-minute breaks every hour or saving time for longer breaks.

Olson began this endeavor after completing a rigorous missionary training program, which involved a 96-hour stint without access to his Bible. This inspired him to preach for the same duration. Supported by First Baptist Church of Sharon, where Olson is the senior pastor, the congregation organized teams for medical monitoring, technical support, and continuous prayer.

The sermon was livestreamed on the church’s website, but there was no official application to Guinness World Records. Olson explained that their goal was to share the gospel, not to gain publicity. He noted the high cost for official verification and emphasized prudent financial stewardship, suggesting that resources would be better used for mission work.

Olson expressed that his effort was about spreading the message of Jesus Christ. According to him, “Jesus is Lord” and deserves every word preached and every sacrifice made. Despite not officially setting a world record, Olson stressed the significance of proclaiming the gospel and obeying God’s call.
