Naperville North’s New Star: Jake Hadaway Shines in Varsity Soccer

Jake Hadaway is making a significant impact in his first and only varsity soccer season at Naperville North High School. Despite not being part of last year’s Class 3A state championship team, or even the top junior varsity team, Hadaway has emerged as a key player.

On Tuesday, the senior forward scored his third goal of the season against rival Naperville Central. Hadaway expressed his excitement, saying, “I don’t think I’m gonna have any better feeling this season.” His early goal put Naperville North ahead 1-0, a moment Hadaway cherishes especially because his team was considered underdogs.

With only eight seconds left in the first half, Hadaway successfully capitalized on a long outlet pass from teammate Will Boniface. This efficient duo struck again early in the second half, contributing to Boniface’s goal following Hadaway’s deep cross.

With a roster featuring only one returning starter, the Huskies stunned Naperville Central 3-0 in the DuPage Valley Conference. “You know, soccer’s funny,” remarked Naperville North coach Jim Konrad. Though acknowledging their win may not reflect superiority, the Huskies’ performance secured their victory. Despite an early season defeat snapping their 31-game unbeaten streak, the Huskies (now 2-1-2) managed to outplay their more experienced rivals, the Redhawks (1-1-1, 0-1).

Naperville Central had moments of control in the first half but failed to score. Coach Troy Adams reflected, “Soccer’s a cruel game,” as effectiveness near the goal determined the outcome.

Returning starter Dylan Healy demonstrated excellence in finishing. Midway through the second half, Ukiah Morris’s shot deflected off the crossbar, setting up Healy to extend the lead to 3-0.

“Everybody built off each other, and everybody did the little things correct today,” Hadaway noted. “Our first touches were on point.”

Naperville North boasts many capable players without relying on superstars. Hadaway emphasizes collective effort, recalling chemistry built since his freshman year with many teammates from the JV2 team. His 28 JV2 goals last year reflect this consistent quality.

Coach Konrad admires Hadaway’s determination, describing him as a “good soccer player who wants to win,” distinguishing him as a player willing to relentlessly pursue victory.

In this significant game against Naperville Central, Hadaway’s collaboration with Boniface illustrates the team synergy driving their success. Boniface appreciates the team’s collective effort, saying, “We just don’t really have a superstar, but we just have everyone playing together for each other.”
